The City of New Orleans

Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu

Office of Supplier Diversity

"The City of New Orleans establishes an overall goal of 50 percent utilization of businesses that are locally owned and controlled for all public spending or private projects that utilize public funding and/or incentives. An overall goal of 35 percent is established for utilization of socially and economically disadvantaged businesses, particularly those businesses located in storm damaged areas."

-Excerpt: Sec. 70.432.1 of the City Charter.

To achieve the goals for locally owned and socially and economically disadvantaged business participation, the City of New Orleans operates the Office of Supplier Diversity.  The Office of Supplier Diversity is the City's department that oversees certification, compliance, training, outreach and capacity building for local, small and disadvantaged businesses in the City of New Orleans. The office was created to help mitigate the effects of past and present social and economic disadvantage and discrimination by increasing the utilization of certified disadvantaged business enterprises in the procurement of goods and services by the City of New Orleans.  The City of New Orleans implements the State & Local Disadvantage Business Enterprise (SLDBE) program, as a race-and gender-neutral disadvantage business enterprise program to provide for the participation of businesses owned by socially and economically disadvantage persons in procurement opportunities with the City of New Orleans.

“SLDBE certification has been a marketing and advertising godsend.  In just a few months, my company has established relationships with many General Contractors that without certification, would have taken years.  Several opportunities have emerged from these relationships, and I’m excited and confident that they will soon transform into successful subcontracts.”

“We have thoroughly appreciated the benefits of being a participant in the City of New Orleans Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program. We have found it to be enlightening, profitable and a positive tool of assistance with the bidding process and our Company's goals for continued growth. The program has afforded our small business the opportunity to demonstrate Royal's capabilities and exemplify the notion that small disadvantaged businesses are fully equipped to deliver big business resources in the city of New Orleans. Our company has additionally grown to apprize the availability, rapid response and assistance received from the Office of Supplier Diversity. Their Team has always been a source of information and guidance through-out our participation period. This fusion of dedicated employees, quality services, a "leveled playing field" and support received from the City are the elements to this progressive Program that promote great promise to its participants.”
