Program Overview

NOLA Youth Works will provide quality summer experiences that build a pipeline to careers for local youth ages 13-21. Experiences will focus on creating a career- ready workforce. As such, our programs are intended to have a long-lasting and long-term impact on each participant. Youth will earn a much needed paycheck and, equally as important, gain experience that helps them define, and advance their career goals. Through deliberate program design, cross-sector collaborations and strategic incentives, the NOLA Youth Works 2018 program will continue to host six (6) distinct program opportunities; NORDC Teen Camp, Work and Learn, Signature, Traditional, Junior Camp Counselor (JCC), and Intern NOLA programs.

Summer 2017 In Review

It was another amazing summer!

Last summer, Mayor Landrieu’s NOLA Youth Works Summer Employment Program provided quality summer experiences for 725 local youth. NOLA Youth Works in partnership with The Office of Workforce Development and businesses in the New Orleans Metropolitan area; provided employment opportunities for the youth of the City of New Orleans.

Thank you to all of the businesses who partnered with us to provide a safe, friendly work environment. The opportunity provided our youth with a meaningful,life long work experience.

We look forward to partnering again with you this summer.

 

NOLA Youth Works partnered with:

Chalmette Oil Refinery's Partners Program

In its inaugural year in Algiers, the Summer Partners Program participants worked with Algiers Charter Schools Association, Edna Karr High School, Inspire NOLA, Landry/Walker High School, The Loft at Behrman NORDC Rec Center, The Loft at Cutoff NORDC Rec Center, Young Audiences at  Eisenhower School,  and the 2nd City Constables Office.

The participants gained hands on work experience through jobs provided by the partners listed above.  The work component was designed to introduce and reinforce the demands and rewards associated with holding a job as well as impart communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.  In addition, relevant classroom-based learning activities were provided to the youth and included various topics such as:  community service, financial literacy, career exploration, work ethic, and customer service.  The youth were paid a salary fully funded by Chalmette Refining and administered by the Workforce Development Board in St. Bernard and the NOLA Youth Works Summer Employment Program in Algiers.
