Aurora Rain Garden is Complete

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans celebrated the completion of the Aurora Rain Garden with residents in Algiers in April. The rain garden will collect and filter stormwater in order to reduce flooding and mitigate subsidence. The Neighborhood Engagement Office had the privilege to attend the completion ceremony for the Aurora Rain Garden in Algiers. Located at the corner of Westchester Street and Carlisle Court, this exciting project will be a valuable resource for the community. Civic Leadership Academy Tours Sewerage and Water Board Plant

On Saturday, April 29, Civic Leadership Academy students were treated to a fascinating tour of the Sewerage and Water Board Plant by General Superintendent, Joe Becker. Highlights of the tour included visiting the full scale power plant, and an in depth look at the New Orleans water purification process. Partipants were amazed to find that SWB pumps have the capacity to fill an Olympic-size swimming pool in 1.5 seconds! It was a very informative morning.

A Celebration in Hollygrove-Dixon

On Saturday, April 29, Hollygrove-Dixon neighbors gathered for a ribbon cutting and christening of the Celebration Church Life Transformation Center at 8606 Marks St. Residents and Celebration Church parishioners were excited about the new addition to the neighborhood, as Pastor Dennis Watson, Neighborhood President Brenda Lomax-Brown, and Center Director Rhia Smith delivered words and performed the ribbon cutting.
